Ricotta cheese is being recalled in the United States right now due to an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced.
Clover Hill Dairy is voluntarily recalling all of their ricotta and requeson (a soft cheese similar to ricotta) cheese. The product was sold in 10, 12 and 14-ounce individual clamshell containers, in addition to bulk 5- and 10-gallon buckets. To confirm whether or not your product is affected by this recall, look for the plant number 24-128 on the label.
The cheese was distributed to bulk distributors, retail stores and direct to consumers in North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington, D.C., between May 4 and May 30, 2026.
According to information collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nine cases of Listeria, including eight hospitalizations and one death have been reported across three states in connection to this cheese as of June 9, 2026.
Listeria infection (listeriosis) can cause symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. It can be especially harmful for certain groups, such as adults over, young children and pregnant women.
